Bible Prophecy – Part 1. The Beacon of Proof for God
The evidence for the God of the Bible is abundant. He has patiently and consistently provided strong proof for His existence, as well as for the trustworthiness of His word in the Bible.
One of the principal ways He has done this is through the use of prophecy. This word ‘prophecy’ has more than one meaning in scripture. In this series we will be referring to it as the foreknowledge and detailed description of major future events a long time before their occurrence.
Why does God use prophecy? There are many reasons. We will start off by presenting it as proof for His existence and the authenticity of the Scriptures. In a lawless and perishing world He is sending us a beacon of proof from beyond time and space. Prophecy in the Bible gives us clear proof for His existence and the trustworthiness of His word.
You may be wondering: how could prophecy be proof of God when we can read it daily in newspapers sold on street corners? Our answer is that Biblical prophecy presents information that cannot be duplicated, inferred or guessed. The events themselves are usually major and publicly known and easily verifiable. The information is specific and tied to real places and times and does not allow for reverse engineering or rewriting of events to fit vague predictions. Furthermore, modern day prophets have no greater success rate than what would be expected by chance alone. Concerning Bible prophecy, God allows for no margin of error .
It is best to use the scriptures themselves to present to you how and why God uses prophecy. We challenge you to follow this series. No matter how one approaches this topic, the evidence will shatter your preconceptions. The beliefs you once held as certain and dear may be lost forever.
In the next post in this series: God stakes His own reputation on prophecy.
STUMBLE IT!
